Bill Peterson will interview you to assess your landscape needs, concerns, and priorities. He will respond with insights and suggestions, drawing from decades of experience. He will discuss design options and present you with creative ideas.
Bill (The landscape design professional) will walk the property with you and discuss site features such as views, sun and wind exposure, mature trees, and other important factors. Characteristics that need to be mitigated, such as noise, traffic, poor drainage, or objectionable views, will be identified for future planning.
An initial consultation often includes a sketched design that summarizes some of the issues discussed during your meeting. It will list items important to you, along with suggested solutions, and show creative ideas that optimize the landscape for your use and pleasure.
At your request, Bill will create a proposal for additional design services. A project budget will be discussed, and estimated costs for implementing the plans you create together. Note that your initial consultation fee is credited toward future design services.

Here are some factors to consider when hiring a landscape designer:
An experienced landscape designer will have many satisfied customers.
Discuss the designer’s approach and style to find someone whose vision aligns with yours. Their aim should always be to satisfy your goals, while sharing their professional experience.
Ask for references from past clients to see their work. They can share their projects through photos, and client testimony.
Ask about their communication preferences and how often they update clients.
Hiring a landscape designer for consultation is an initial investment that can help you better understand your project needs, and build a relationship with the designer. Paying for this service shows you are invested in the project, and allows the professional to use the full range of their experience to advise you. The more invested you are, the more likely you are to move forward with the project, and find professionals to assist you.
Consider opportunities you would not think of yourself.
Identify issues that you were unaware of.
Clarify your priorities and refine your wish list.
Gain a broader understanding of the work involved, and potential costs.
